Key People

Charlie Phethean, Team Sales Director
Charlie's background prior to entering the recruitment industry is what one could easily describe as 'varied'. Immediately before joining Barrington James, Charlie was responsible for the sale and management of a portfolio of high-profile domestic properties in South West London. However, before working in property, Charlie worked as an international DJ for several years in the music industry. He worked at many famous venues throughout Europe, America, and Australia; his career in music took him to a number of countries worldwide, and even resulted in him having his own fan-base! (If you ever have the chance to talk about his music career with him, some of Charlie's stories are fascinating!)
Charlie joined Barrington James in 2006 and was an integral part of Barrington James establishing itself as a market leader in the clinical research recruitment field throughout Europe. Now working as a Team Sales Director, Charlie manages a number of key Barrington James clients, and is heavily involved in the setting-up of a number of 'Managed Recruitment projects'.
Living in Sussex with his 3 boys, Charlie is a keen follower of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and, again, thinks that this year could be THE year!

Simon Penrose, Team Sales Manager
Simon has worked with Barrington James since 2006. Before this, Simon worked for several years in the financial industry as a mortgage underwriter. Convinced there were more exciting and challenging prospects elsewhere, Simon made the transition into recruitment and has never looked back. Reflecting on what he enjoys most about Barrington James he says "Every day brings a different challenge and I enjoy providing genuine recruitment solutions to different CRO, Pharma and Medical Device clients. Most of all, I enjoy building long term relationships with our key contacts". Simon's key strength is providing candidates and clients with the extra care and attention that is so often lacking from the recruitment industry. Simon is a committed family man and can often be found walking his dogs with his wife and daughter in the local countryside. Being an avid music fan, when on his own he listens to old rock!

Paul Duffy, Team Sales Manager
Bringing a mixture of experience, Paul's pharmaceutical industry experience is somewhat 'rare' in that he has worked on both sides of the recruitment desk – both as a specialist Recruitment Consultant, and also in business development for a Clinical Research Organisation. This experience has enabled Paul to provide his clients with both an outstanding level of service and an in-depth knowledge of his market place.
Paul's recruitment experience spreads over 11 years, some 8 years of which specifically within the pharmaceutical sector.
Paul joined Barrington James in 2006 and now operates as a Team Sales Manager, and is an integral part of Barrington James' Contract Recruitment Team. A proud Geordie, Paul is a keen follower of Newcastle United Football Club. His colleagues at Barrington James tend to view this as rather pointless.

Pippa Wilson, Team Sales Director
Before joining Barrington James in 2007, Pippa worked in Sales Management and was the Sales Manager for a highly-rated local radio station in the South East, Mercury FM. Alongside promoting the radio station, Pippa also had managed a sizeable sales force, and held responsibility for the sales team's performance and revenue generation.
Pippa first met Dan Barrington and Steve James when they explored advertising opportunities on Mercury FM; impressed with Pip's professional approach and personable nature, Dan and Steve "cheekily" discussed an opening within Barrington James and... The rest is history! In 2008 Pippa was nominated, from 400 nominees, for Pharmaceutical Recruiter of the Year and qualified to reach the finals of the last 8, something she went on again to achieve in 2009 – an outstanding performance. Pippa concentrates her efforts in the Health Economics arena and has rapidly made herself the Recruitment Consultant of choice for many of her clients along with a number of her candidates with whom Pip has forged lasting relationships.
Pippa is known at Barrington James for being the office sun-worshipper, and describes travelling as her favourite pastime – "providing the sun's there!" Pip also enjoys music and dancing and thoroughly enjoys socialising with her ever-growing circle of friends!

Stuart Gill, Team Sales Manager
Prior to joining Barrington James in 2008 Stuart worked in media sales for the market leading trade publishing company, William Reed Business Media. During his time at William Reed Stuart was awarded as 'newcomer' of the year, from some 50 fellow employees!
After reaching a senior sales position Stuart wanted to broaden his experience and had, for some time, considered exploring a career in the recruitment industry. After learning about one of Barrington James' recruitment drives, Stuart joined in October 2008 as a Recruitment Consultant, and rapidly progressed to the position of Team Sales Manager.
Stuart possesses a very positive attitude and is known in the office for his 'never say die' approach to his work. He prides himself on his motivational qualities and also his 'interesting' sense of humour!
Outside of work Stuart leads an active social life with his wide circle of friends. He is also a keen sportsman and keeps fit by practicing one of his favourite sports, amateur boxing.

Cliff Cox, Principal Consultant
After 9 years working in the Logistics Industry, in Customer Care and Accounts Management roles, Cliff joined Barrington James in June 2004. Working initially as a Recruitment Consultant, Cliff's original area of concentration was in the field of Clinical Research. Using his Account Management background, Cliff personally managed one of Barrington James' largest clients throughout all of Europe. Cliff is now a key member of Barrington James' Health Economics Recruitment Team, and specialises in the recruitment of Market Access, Pricing and Reimbursement and Health Economics professionals throughout the UK and globally. Cliff has established key relationships in all the sectors he has worked in, and continues to maintain and grow Barrington James' excellent reputation in the industry. Cliff is a two-times finalist in the Pharmatimes Recruiter of the Year competition.
Cliff is also a proud family man and spends much of his time outside of work with his wife and two children. Being an advocate of the powers of positive thinking, Cliff still manages to find a little time to follow his favourite team, Crystal Palace!

Dean Govier, Internal Recruitment Manager
Before joining Barrington James in 2011, Dean worked within a number of specialist industries including investment banking and of course, recruitment. As head of Internal Recruitment, Dean's efforts are now spent largely on attracting the very best talent to come and work for Barrington James. Dean understands that in today's incredibly competitive job market, it's important that we ensure our recruitment procedures are as streamlined and straight forward as possible.
Dean takes pleasure in overseeing all aspects of the Barrington James internal recruitment procedures and describes his role as "varied, challenging and above all, rewarding". A keen photographer, Dean is rarely seen without a camera of some sort, preferring to be behind the lens than actually pose for a photograph.

Iain Williams, Finance Manager
A relative newcomer to the world of Pharmaceutical Recruitment, Iain joined the Barrington James team in September 2008, having spent thirteen years as a finance manager in the construction and marketing industries. Iain is responsible for the day to day activities of the finance team, making sure that every 'I' is dotted and 'T' crossed, and of course everyone paid. Being a senior member of the Operations Team, Iain is viewed by everyone at Barrington James as the person to talk to about almost any of the company's business functions.
Iain has always enjoyed a challenge and as Barrington James continues to grow he has been given a variety of opportunities to expand his skills, not least the formation of Barrington James' operation in Singapore, along with project managing Barrington James' recent office move.
A graduate of Edinburgh University, Iain has a keen interest in history as well as a rather less healthy love of Heavy Metal rock music. Along with his wife, Iain also likes cats a lot.

Harriet Roberts, Singapore Country Manager
Before joining Barrington James in October 2010, Harriet worked for one of our global CRO clients in their Clinical Recruitment Team. She was heavily involved in recruitment across European markets and later on in 2009, helped establish the centralized recruitment function for the company's Asia Pacific operations during a 6 month secondment in Singapore. Realizing that Asia was 'the place to be!' Harriet joined Barrington James and now heads up our of team of consultants based in Singapore.
