Overseeing Barrington James’ Contracts Division

Like many, James ‘fell’ into recruitment after his 4 years Business Studies at University failed to signal an obvious career path in the tough market conditions of 2001.

In the event James joined a safe and solid FTSE 250 recruiter with a good reputation for people development, and spent 11 years there gaining invaluable experience into the processes and nuances of fast moving contract recruitment, as well as honing his individual skills, and rising from Trainee to Business Manager.

After successfully setting up a new IT Division for Contracts and Permanent recruitment, James was lured to Barrington James in 2012.

Barrington James had appealed to James immediately for the quality of its leadership. ‘They had a clear vision of success, that was both aspirational and realistic.’ The company was clearly going places and James wanted to be part of it.

James quickly made his mark on the company and set about building a Contract Division that could match the professionalism and success of the main business. James identifies the company’s focus on real niche markets and its work hard play hard mentality as prime movers in its success story. That, of course, combined with its command of the most modern and effective business techniques.

Despite his experience, James feels he continues to learn with the company. ‘The global nature of our business has seen me travel more on the last year than in the previous five put together. And travel broadens the mind. It has really opened my eyes to the way we need to build our client relationships in the future.’
