Why YOU should work for Barrington James
Why YOU should work for Barrington James
Looking for a job that is fun, unique and one that is worth waking up to everyday? Well look no further! Barrington James is hiring Sales Recruiters at all levels to join our teams in NYC and Raleigh, NC.
I won't bore you with what we do, that you can read up on your own at: www.barringtonjames.com, but what I will do is tell you how we are as a group and what you can gain by working with us.
As the saying goes, pictures don't lie and these pictures (above) sure contain well-over 13,000 words! We are a quirky bunch and are certainly not afraid to show it. Our belief is that if you're going to work 60+ hours a week, we might as well have fun doing it! Companies will claim they have a "work hard, play hard, culture, but here is living proof that we eat, sleep and breath that motto.
I figured I'd share my experience of when I joined Barrington James... After graduating from Rutgers University in 2013 with a Psychology and HR degree, I joined Michael Page | Page Group where I spent my time focusing on Finance and Accounting recruitment. After being there for a little of a year, I decided to turn my direction to seek other opportunities as I realized I wanted and needed more than just turning up to an office everyday. It was the call from an unusual +44 number that changed my life. I spoke with Dean Govier, internal recruiter, from the UK office in which he told me they were looking to expand their NYC office and asked if I'd be interested in learning more. Long story short, 2 interviews later (the 2nd one being at a bar on a sat morning with the CEO, Dan Barrington, and Contracts Director, James Lewis) I was sold (and offered the job). Barrington James focusing within the Pharmaceutical industry really excited me but it was everything that they offered that was truly intriguing. The opportunity to travel, high commission structure, team culture, company incentives, global conferences.. all sounded great, but could they live up to it??
My first year was beyond incredible- I was asked to create a brand new Clinical Contracts Division, first one in the US. It wasn't easy but I'm always up for a challenge! During my first year, I traveled to Boston, Philly, Orlando, Miami, Raleigh NC, San Francisco, Denver, Salt Lake City & San Diego for conferences. These conferences gave me a chance to introduce myself to hiring managers and candidates and in turn, generate leads. Sounds boring initially, especially when a conference falls on a weekend, but our goal is to stand out and be memorable. We do this by playing games at our booth, twist the arms of C-Level Executives to take shots with us (which is never that hard to do), and host open bar events in the evenings. You know it was a good conference when hiring managers of Pharmaceutical/Medical Device companies talk about it the next week when we call them to BD (business develop).
Honestly... we don't get awarded 'best booth' because we're normal. (Ispor Conference, 2015)
In addition, I had the opportunity to visit our UK, Germany and Singapore offices (all were absolutely amazing by the way). All my family and friends tell me how lucky I am to have a job that allows me to travel and see the world...I'm not 'lucky, I was just smart by saying yes to an offer! I did incredibly well my first year, especially for someone who walked into a non-existent contract division. Hard work and dedication truly does pay off!
I also earned my spot on 3 Quarterly Director Lunches hosted by Dan Barrington and our management team in my first year! Those who hit 150% of target each quarter are qualified to attend. On these events we wined and dined at 5-star restaurants, had access to ultimate rooftop bars in NYC, 'Escaped the Room' (successfully), went to a Yankee game, rocked a boat through London, and bar crawled our way home (just to name a few!). This is a way for our Managers, Directors and CEO to show how much they appreciate us and all the hard work we do, because believe me it is hard work! I'm really looking forward to what the next Directors Lunch will be like... will you be there?
Our Senior Management team invests a lot of time and effort into each and everyone of our staff to ensure they have maximum potential to succeed. We have amazing training for the first 16 weeks upon starting with us and then endless training throughout the entirety of your career here (actually sitting next to my packed bag as I write this as I head back to the UK for additional training). We celebrate success, big time! We give a bottle of champagne to those who close their first deal, allow you to leave work early for hitting target and qualify you for amazing trips! There's always some sort of a global contest going on whether it's a 7 day paid vacation to Florida to the first Recruiter who breaks into 5 new accounts in Q1 or 'the white envelope' contest where you have the opportunity of winning hundreds of prizes such as a GoPro, spa day voucher, extra vacation days, or even $2500 by scheduling interviews and booking deals! We're truly an energetic and competitive group where we celebrate our individual successes as well as others day in and day out.
With all that I mentioned, I do have to play devils advocate and say that although this company is amazing and the job is great, it's not for everyone. And that is perfectly fine because if it were for everyone, well, than I wouldn't have a profession as the new global internal recruiter! Our goal is to find those who are sales-driven, competitive, hard working and money-motivated! This isn't your typical 9-5 nor is it your 'go home and not think about work again until the next day' type of job. We need recruiters who are money hungry, have a 'not stop until it's done' mentality and truly resilient in every way possible. If you're nodding your head going "yep, yep, absolutely, that's me" than perfect..YOU are who we want!
Being a recruiter is one of the most rewarding jobs out there in sales. You help people find jobs! You change peoples lives whether is because they got laid off due to company reorganization and you're able to find them a new job or someone strongly dislikes their current employer and you found them their dream job. You always come out as the good guy, which never normally happens in sales! I will tell you this though... it will be a stressful job, you will work long hours and you will want to go to a kickboxing class after work to relieve stress, but when you find someone a career opportunity that puts a smile on their face, you'll see it's all worth it in the end! ... And if that doesn't do it for you, I'm sure receiving a nice lump commission check will do the trick!
I hope this post has painted an overall picture in your mind (hopefully a positive one) about Barrington James and that you can see yourself being part of our family. No matter your background or experience within sales/recruitment, we're always eager to speak to those who are interested in joining our team!
