Who are we?

With in excess of 35 year's recruitment experience between them, Dan Barrington and Steve James formed Barrington James Limited with a view to creating a ‘recruitment company with a difference’.

Dan and Steve first entered the recruitment industry by joining two of the largest and, often thought to be, two of the ‘more aggressive’ recruitment companies around at the time.

Working in such a pressurised environment can often result in a reduction in the level of quality of service being offered: target-driven Sales Managers continually encouraging greater numbers of candidate CVs being sent to, often, unmatched vacancies; interviews being ‘forced’ upon candidates who aren’t actually interested in the role on offer; clients being ‘mis-sold’ a candidate’s experience only to discover, at interview, that the candidate is completely unsuitable for the rolel; clients often not able to speak to the same Consultant twice due to the high staff turnover in some consultancies.

When Barrington James was first established in May 2002, Dan and Steve set out to build a company, from scratch (from a spare room in fact!), with which clients would actually enjoy working with, and one that candidates would recommend their friends and colleagues to; a consultancy in which people would like working and would consider their position at Barrington James as a career opportunity, not just a job, and would stay for longer. But how?

People have tried to re-invent the ‘Recruitment Wheel’ a thousand and one times, but to no avail. At Barrington James we are not even trying to re-invent anything – we just try and do what we do as well as we can. Our attitude has always been, and always will be, that the least a client can expect from us is value for money. We listen to our client’s expectations, the type of people they are recruiting for, and we do the best we can in matching our candidate’s needs to those of our client's.

How do we measure our performance? It is, of course, extremely hard to gauge. However, Barrington James Limited is in an enviable position in that a substantial amount of its business comes from existing clients, many of who we have been dealing with since our inception. Our reputation is such that a significant number of candidates that we work on behalf of come to us by way of recommendation rather than advertising, meaning that we represent many of our candidates exclusively.

Why do our Consultants stay with us? Who knows? Perhaps it down to our uncapped commission structures, overseas work opportunities, excellent in-house training and support, promotion opportunities based on achievement not length of service. Maybe it's simply because we're a great company to work for and one that celebrates the success of it's consultants.
