Animal Technician

About the Role

As a Trainee Animal Technician, you’ll support the day-to-day care and welfare of animals within a controlled environment. You’ll play a vital role in maintaining high standards of animal care, hygiene, and facility operations.

  • Carrying out routine animal husbandry (feeding, watering, cleaning, and monitoring)
  • Maintaining high standards of animal welfare and hygiene
  • Cleaning animal housing and equipment
  • Recording and reporting observations accurately
  • Supporting environmental monitoring (e.g., temperature checks)
  • Following strict procedures and regulatory guidelines
  • Assisting with general operational tasks as required

 

We’re keen to hear from individuals who:

  • Have some experience working with animals (academic, voluntary, or professional)
  • Are comfortable with hands-on, practical work
  • Have strong attention to detail and can follow procedures carefully
  • Are reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team
  • Demonstrate a genuine interest in animal welfare
  • Are willing to learn and develop professionally

 

Essential Requirements:

  • Full UK driving licence
  • Basic IT skills (e.g., Microsoft Office)
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Experience in animal husbandry or similar environments

 

Working Hours & Conditions:

  • Flexibility required (including weekends and occasional out-of-hours cover)
  • Role involves physical tasks such as lifting, cleaning, and manual handling
  • PPE must be worn in accordance with procedures
