An ambitious quantum computing company is seeking a Senior Quantum Experimental Physicist to join its rapidly growing hardware team. The organisation is developing a scalable neutral-atom quantum computing platform with a strong focus on quantum error correction, high-fidelity gate operations, and fault-tolerant quantum computing

You will play a key role in designing, building, and optimising experiments focused on neutral-atom quantum processors. Working alongside leading experimental physicists, engineers, and theorists, you will contribute directly to advancing laser cooling, optical trapping, quantum gate implementation, and experimental control systems.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on laboratory work and wants to contribute to the development of next-generation quantum computing hardware.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and execute experiments involving neutral-atom qubit preparation, control, and manipulation.
  • Build, align, characterise, and optimise advanced laser and free-space optical systems.
  • Operate, maintain, and improve ultra-high vacuum (UHV) experimental platforms.
  • Develop and optimise high-fidelity quantum gate operations.
  • Design and improve experimental control software and automation tools.
  • Analyse experimental data and identify opportunities for improving system performance.
  • Collaborate closely with hardware engineers, software developers, and quantum theorists.
  • Publish research findings and contribute to presentations at leading international conferences.

Required Experience

  • PhD in Experimental Physics, Atomic Molecular and Optical (AMO) Physics, Quantum Optics, Precision Measurement, or a closely related discipline (or equivalent industrial experience).
  • Strong hands-on experience with laser systems, including optical alignment, stabilisation, and characterisation.
  • Experience working with ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems.
  • Experience developing experimental control software and analysing data using Python or similar programming languages.
  • Demonstrated research experience through peer-reviewed publications or presentations at international conferences.

Following your application Jake Phillips, a specialist recruiter will discuss the opportunity with you in detail. Jake will be more than happy to answer any questions relating to the industry and the potential for your career growth. The conversation can also progress further to discussing other opportunities, which are also available right now or will be imminently becoming available.

This position has been highly popular, and it is likely that it will close shortly. We recommend applying as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
