Seeking a Hardware Development Engineer with deep expertise in beamline instrumentation development. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in plasma physics, particularly plasma diagnostics and confinement as well as electron/ion guns and/or atomic and molecular beam generation.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test advanced ion, electron, and atomic beam sources
  • Design and validate proof-of-concept plasma discharge systems
  • Design, assemble, and operate plasma diagnostic instrumentation
  • Plan and execute experiments to verify operational and performance parameters
  • Produce mechanical, optomechanical, and mechatronic designs using CAD tools (e.g. Fusion 360 or PTC Creo), following best practices for ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems
  • Operate and integrate laboratory test and measurement equipment, including oscilloscopes, DAQs, multimeters, timing devices, and multi-instrument control systems
  • Develop Python scripts for experimental control, data acquisition, and data analysis
  • Iteratively refine and optimise designs based on experimental results
  • Prepare clear technical documentation and reports for internal stakeholders

Profile

  • PhD or advanced degree in Physics, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent hands-on industrial or research experience
  • Proven experience with plasma physics, molecular/atomic beams, ion beams, or electron beams in academic or industrial R&D environments
  • Strong hands-on experience with high and ultra-high vacuum hardware and instrumentation
  • Excellent practical skills in experimental prototyping, system debugging, and test bench operation
  • Experience automating complex experimental setups involving actuators, lasers, and detectors is highly desirable
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivale
