Role Summary
This position is responsible for planning and delivering public affairs strategies in Japan. Working closely with local and regional leadership, the role connects communications, policy engagement, and stakeholder outreach to support organizational objectives.
Key areas of focus include reputation management, policy awareness, stakeholder relationships, and integrated campaign execution.
Core Responsibilities
Strategy & Coordination
- Develop and implement market-specific public affairs plans aligned with broader business goals.
- Track developments in policy, regulation, and public discourse relevant to the sector.
- Collaborate across functions to ensure consistent messaging and coordinated execution.
- Manage external partners and oversee budgets tied to public affairs activities.
Communications & External Relations
- Plan and deliver communications initiatives targeting a range of external audiences.
- Adapt messaging to suit local context, including media and professional communities.
- Build and maintain relationships with journalists and other external stakeholders.
- Support awareness initiatives related to key health topics or service areas.
- Handle sensitive issues and contribute to crisis response planning when needed.
Policy & Stakeholder Engagement
- Monitor government and regulatory developments and provide internal updates.
- Support leadership interactions with external organizations, including public bodies and industry groups.
- Contribute to engagement approaches that align with policy and market access priorities.
Social Contribution Initiatives
- Coordinate programs that contribute to broader societal outcomes while engaging employees.
New Offering Introduction Support
- Partner with internal teams to support the introduction of new solutions into the market.
- Help prepare external audiences by developing clear and relevant informational materials.
- Identify potential external challenges and contribute to mitigation planning.
- Support outreach efforts to professional groups, decision-makers, and media.
Candidate Profile
Experience
- Significant experience (typically 15+ years) in public affairs, communications, or related fields.
- Background in a regulated industry such as healthcare, life sciences, or technology preferred.
- Familiarity with Japan’s institutional and media landscape.
Skills
- Strong communication abilities in both Japanese and English.
- Ability to translate complex topics into clear, audience-appropriate messaging.
- Experience aligning multiple workstreams into cohesive strategies.
