A leading global biopharmaceutical organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Scientist in Histology & Image Analysis to join its Translational Sciences team in Gothenburg. This is an exceptional opportunity for a talented scientist to apply advanced histological and image analysis techniques to support cutting-edge drug discovery and development programmes.

Working within a highly collaborative research environment, you will play a key role in generating and interpreting complex tissue-based data that drives scientific decision-making across a diverse therapeutic portfolio. You will contribute expertise in histology, digital pathology, and image analysis to advance the understanding of disease biology and therapeutic mechanisms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, execute, and interpret histology-based studies supporting preclinical and translational research programmes.
  • Develop and optimise tissue processing, staining, imaging, and quantitative image analysis workflows.
  • Apply digital pathology and image analysis approaches to generate high-quality, reproducible data.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including pathology, bioscience, translational medicine, biomarker, and project teams.
  • Support the development and implementation of novel image analysis methodologies and technologies.
  • Present scientific findings to internal stakeholders and contribute to project strategy discussions.
  • Maintain high scientific standards, ensuring data quality, integrity, and regulatory compliance where appropriate.
  • Contribute to scientific publications, presentations, and external collaborations.
What you'll need 
  • PhD (or equivalent experience) in Histology, Pathology, Cell Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience in histology and tissue-based assay development within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, academic, or CRO environments.
  • Expertise in digital pathology and quantitative image analysis platforms such as Visiopharm, HALO, QuPath, ImageJ, or similar technologies.
  • Strong understanding of tissue biology, biomarker assessment, and translational research principles.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary drug discovery or development programmes.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative and fast-paced scientific environment.
