Senior Scientist, Gene Therapy Process Development
- Basel, Switzerland
- Permanent
The Opportunity
We are partnering with a growing, research-driven biotechnology organisation focused on developing innovative cell and gene therapies. With a strong pipeline and continued investment in viral vector platforms, the company is expanding its process development team to support programs moving from early development through to GMP manufacturing.
This is a great opportunity to join a collaborative environment working on cutting-edge therapies with real patient impact.
The Role
As a Process Development Scientist, you will support the design, optimisation, and scale-up of upstream processes for viral vector production (AAV / Lentiviral). You will work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure processes are robust, scalable, and suitable for tech transfer into GMP manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute upstream process development experiments for viral vector production
- Optimise cell culture processes for yield, quality, and scalability
- Support process scale-up from lab to pilot and GMP manufacturing
- Contribute to tech transfer activities to internal sites or CDMOs
- Analyse and interpret experimental data, presenting findings to project teams
- Collaborate with CMC, MSAT, manufacturing, and analytical teams
- Support development of process documentation for regulatory submissions
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains
Requirements
- Degree (BSc/MSc/PhD) in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, or related field
- Experience in upstream process development within biotech or pharma
- Hands-on experience with cell culture systems
- Exposure to viral vector production (AAV, Lentiviral desirable)
- Understanding of process scale-up and GMP environments
- Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills
