Veterinary Surgeon – Preclinical Research

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Veterinary Surgeon to join a well-established preclinical research organisation. Working alongside an experienced Named Veterinary Surgeon (NVS), you will play a key role in supporting animal welfare, veterinary care, and regulatory compliance across a range of research programmes.

This position offers a structured development pathway, including training and support towards becoming a Named Veterinary Surgeon (NVS), making it an excellent opportunity for a veterinarian looking to build a long-term career within the research environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide veterinary care and clinical oversight for animals
  • Support animal welfare, health monitoring, and preventative medicine programmes
  • Work closely with scientific and animal care teams to ensure high standards of welfare and compliance
  • Assist with the review of study protocols and provide veterinary input where required
  • Contribute to regulatory compliance in line with the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act (ASPA) and associated guidelines.
  • Participate in veterinary investigations, case management, and welfare assessments
  • Support training and development initiatives relating to animal welfare and veterinary best practice


Requirements

  • MRCVS-qualified Veterinary Surgeon
  • Previous experience working with dogs is essential
  • Strong understanding of animal welfare and clinical veterinary practice
  • A proactive and collaborative approach to working within multidisciplinary teams


Desirable Experience

  • Experience working within a Contract Research Organisation (CRO) or research environment
  • Knowledge of laboratory animal science and the regulatory framework governing animal research
  • Exposure to ASPA-regulated procedures
  • Interest in progressing towards Named Veterinary Surgeon (NVS) responsibilities
