Veterinary Surgeon – Preclinical Research
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Veterinary Surgeon to join a well-established preclinical research organisation. Working alongside an experienced Named Veterinary Surgeon (NVS), you will play a key role in supporting animal welfare, veterinary care, and regulatory compliance across a range of research programmes.
This position offers a structured development pathway, including training and support towards becoming a Named Veterinary Surgeon (NVS), making it an excellent opportunity for a veterinarian looking to build a long-term career within the research environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care and clinical oversight for animals
- Support animal welfare, health monitoring, and preventative medicine programmes
- Work closely with scientific and animal care teams to ensure high standards of welfare and compliance
- Assist with the review of study protocols and provide veterinary input where required
- Contribute to regulatory compliance in line with the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act (ASPA) and associated guidelines.
- Participate in veterinary investigations, case management, and welfare assessments
- Support training and development initiatives relating to animal welfare and veterinary best practice
Requirements
- MRCVS-qualified Veterinary Surgeon
- Previous experience working with dogs is essential
- Strong understanding of animal welfare and clinical veterinary practice
- A proactive and collaborative approach to working within multidisciplinary teams
Desirable Experience
- Experience working within a Contract Research Organisation (CRO) or research environment
- Knowledge of laboratory animal science and the regulatory framework governing animal research
- Exposure to ASPA-regulated procedures
- Interest in progressing towards Named Veterinary Surgeon (NVS) responsibilities
